Trading Name vs. Legal Name
It is important to distinguish between these two fields in Unimarket:
- Trading Name (Display Name): The "Doing Business As" (DBA) name. This is what customers see when searching the Unimarket Marketplace. Suppliers can usually edit this freely.
- Legal Name: The name associated with the Tax ID (EIN). In many community configurations, the Legal Name is locked after the initial registration is approved.
NOTE:
For US Suppliers, a change to the Legal Name or Trading Name often necessitates an update to the Tax Profile. If the name on your tax return changes, you must ensure the Tax Profile in Unimarket matches your IRS records.
Updating the Tax Profile (US Suppliers)
If there are more than one customer connected to the profile (displayed on the Home screen). We recommend reaching out to the Community Administrator for all customers, before updating the Tax profile. To avoid disrupting the customer's recordkeeping and possibly delaying payment disbursements.
If you are a US-based supplier and have updated your Company Name, you can review your tax documentation:
- Go to Profile on the left panel > select Tax Profile.
- Ensure the Legal Name and EIN/TIN match your most recent W-9, W-8BEN or W-8BEN-E.
- If the ownership or tax classification has changed, create a new W-9, W-8BEN or W-8BEN-E.
- Note: For additional assistance, refer to help article Submitting & Updating Tax Profile.
